Designed in 1975 at the request of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Hermès “Les Cavaliers d'Or” scarf was created to accompany the landmark exhibition The Gold of the Scythians, later shown at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1976. The carré pays tribute to the Scythians — nomadic warriors from Central Asia known for their opulent gold craftsmanship and richly adorned weaponry, harnesses, and jewelry. The scarf displays an ornate tableau of ancient combs, pectorals, amulets, clasps, and golden animals, showcasing the refined artistry and mythic symbolism of a pre-Christian era.
