First issued in 1957 and still one of Hermès’ most iconic creations, Brides de Gala is considered “the carré par excellence.” Designed by Hugo Grygkar with artistic direction from Robert Dumas, the scarf draws on Hermès’ roots as a master saddler and harness maker. Its central composition — two opulently decorated bridles set face-to-face — is elegantly balanced, exuding both structure and grandeur.
This version, with a classic red border, pays homage to 18th and 19th-century equestrian traditions. The bridles themselves are inspired by pieces from the private Émile Hermès collection, including harnesses made for Emperor Maximilian of Mexico. On the right, twin sirens spring from a cornucopia, holding an imperial crown. On the left, the crest of the Comtes de Ferronnays — a French noble family known for its exquisite harnesses — appears on the blinders. Both refined and steeped in heritage, Brides de Gala is a timeless statement of French luxury.
